Two years ago, I took part in my first triathlon, a Try-A-Tri with a short swim. I knew how to swim (back to the dock after diving in) but quickly realized that I couldn’t keep up with the other swimmers. Following the swim of that first triathlon I was exhausted and really struggled with the bike and run portion of the race. Following that race I went to the pool and put in lots of time and laps, but my times didn’t really improve.
My wife encouraged me to sign up for the Triathlon Swim Sessions with Craig. Right from the beginning Craig focused in on technique, rather than distance. This approach was foreign to me as triathlon is an endurance sport and I wanted to keep doing more distance. However, I followed the approach and the focus on technique has allowed me to build on the efficiency of my swim stroke. Following the focus on technique, Craig moved on to distance and building my aerobic threshold during the swim.
Following the first full season of Triathlon Swim Training with Craig, I competed in 5 Sprint distance triathlons, which more than doubled the swim portion of my first race. The time spent focusing on the efficiency of the swim stroke resulted in cutting my swim pace dramatically, which allowed me to complete the full 750 meter swim in the same time as my previous attempts at 350 meters. My swim times allowed me to come out of the water in a competitive position but also feeling relaxed and ready to take on the bike and run portions of the triathlon.
Currently, I’m in my second year of training with Craig, and I continue to develop my swim stroke as I get ready to take on longer distance races. If you’re serious about being more comfortable and competitive in the water, I would highly recommend complementing your training program with the Triathlon Swimming sessions offered by Craig at The Swim Academy and Swim Faster Now.

| My family has attended Craig's winter swim camp in Orlando for 2 years running. The instruction and technical components of the program are phenomenal. As a direct result of Craig's programming, my oldest son tried out for and made a swim team that took him to Iceland. My youngest son made provincial qualifying times at the age of nine and my daughter made provincial and age group national qualifying times. The kids not only became stronger and more focused but they had a great time as well. We look forward to next year's camp and the opportunity to have Craig coach our children.

Hi Craig!
Just thought you may be interested in hearing a compliment…as you know I came to see you to overcome my fear of open water swimming. Well, I did the Centre Island Tri on the past weekend and obviously working with you has helped. My last two times were over 17:00 minutes, but on the weekend my time was 12:00 minutes!! Not only that but I felt great when I finished vs. exhausted and dizzy! I was thrilled, and cant wait to do more races with longer swim legs. The swim leg was formerly my weakest and most nerve racking but I have officially over come that thanks to the swim drills we have been working on. Thanks again for your coaching expertise and I look forward to the next round of the program.
